Retrieve a cartoon from the database

Retrieve a pre-generated cartoon from the database of cartoons built from the contents of the ASTRAL SCOP 1.75 PDB-style genetic domain 95% sequence identity filtered subset, or (if a PDB rather than SCOP identifier is entered) from any PDB identifier, automatically updated weekly on the server.

If you want a cartoon for a domain not in this database, or with different options, you can generate a cartoon for any structure in the PDB, or for any uploaded atomic co-ordinates file in PDB format, from the 'generate a cartoon' form.

Select a domain by its SCOP domain identifier (sid, e.g. d1qlpa_) or a PDB entry by its PDB identifier (e.g. 1QLP), and select the graphics format in which to return the cartoon.

Cartoons are generated in scalable vector graphics (SVG) format by default and shown in an interactive webpage. This option enables additional features such as panning and zooming, hover text showing the residues in SSEs, and an interactive 3D view provided by Jmol. You can also download the SVG file and then view or edit it with Dunnart or Inkscape.

If your browser does not support SVG, you can select a PNG (bitmap) file option instead, which will cause the cartoon to be rendered to a PNG format bitmap on the server.

Likewise, PDF may also be selected for viewing and downloading. This format is not pre-generated in the database however, so it will be generated for you and hence will not be available instantly.

The options used for generating these cartoons were:

• pi and 310 helices included
• DSSP used to define secondary structure
• helices not placed between neighboring sheets
• helix clustering enabled and nearby helix clusters shaded the same color
• helices and strands labelled sequentially in same sequence
• SSE colored in gradient from blue at N terminus to red at C terminus
• connectors that cross or share route colored differently
• rounded connector corners
• for PDB files, domain decomposition from the CATH CathDomall.v3.3.0 file
